How to Prepare for Your Upcoming Oral Exam

Posted on 2/21/2022 by Evan
How to Prepare for Your Upcoming Oral ExamIf you want to maintain good oral health, regular oral exams are very important. You might be brushing and flossing your teeth regularly, but there are some oral conditions that only oral exams can address. Professionals can only detect infections like receding gum line, tooth decay, and tooth cavities. If you are scheduled to come for an oral exam, here is how you can prepare for it.

Clean Your Teeth Ahead of Time

Our skilled dentists will tell you how often you floss or brush your teeth during the oral exam. This will be based on the sensitivity of your gums and if there are any signs of cavities or tooth decay. Even though there isn't much you can do to alter the condition, flossing and brushing right before coming in for an oral exam will help us make accurate evaluations.

Avoid Coffee or Energy Drinks Before the Visit

You should not drink coffee or energy drink before coming in for an oral exam. Depending on your dental condition, we usually take between 30 minutes to an hour on an oral exam. Coffee and energy drinks can make your mouth jittery due to their ingredients. In addition, these drinks can worsen your teeth through corrosion. They wear down the tooth enamel and expose the underlying tissues.

Let Us Know What is the Problem

Before coming for an oral exam, you should note any dental aspect that makes you uncomfortable. Note that numerous factors could make you uncomfortable. Some of them are tooth sensitivity, decay, cavities, and bleeding gums. Let us know if you have any of these problems and the kind of discomfort they cause. Our dentists will examine you and check whether any treatment is necessary. Schedule a consultative appointment with us for more information on oral exams.
