If you are not, we are willing to bet your children or grandchildren are. Summer is nearly here, which for many people means summer vacation. If you are planning your summer vacation, you need to make sure you think about family dental health while you plan. Here are some tips for regulating your dental health while on vacation.

Do Not Forget to Pack the Essentials

Now that the COVID-19 pandemic has waned, many families are visiting family and friends abroad. Before you begin to make your packing plans and lists, you need to consider where you are traveling. Some countries do not use the same types of toothpaste that we have here in the United States, so you may want to pack your own. Keep in mind that you should pack a travel-sized toothpaste tube because the Federal Aviation Administration limits the number of gels and liquids on airplanes.

Also, if you use electric toothbrushes or flossers, you may be better off leaving those at home and packing manual toothbrushes and flossers. Depending on where your family is going this summer, many countries do not have the same electrical outlets that we have. Rather than looking for an adapter, it is just as easy to pack a manual toothbrush and a package of flossers.

Fluoride

Americans have been getting fluoride in both their toothpaste and their water supply for nearly 75 years. Fluoride helps remineralize your permanent teeth and also helps your teeth repel the bacteria that cause cavities. However, only six percent of all the countries in the world have fluoride in their drinking water, and other countries do not have fluoride in their toothpaste. If you are going to visit a country that does not have fluoride in its water, you may want to make sure the toothpaste you are taking on your trip has fluoride in it.
