Perhaps it's your first visit in a while. You'll want to be able to answer some questions before you make your visit. Here are some things you need to be prepared to answer before you visit that dentist.

Medications and Health Conditions

One of the first questions a dentist or dental hygienist will ask you is about your physical health. If you have a chronic health condition, such as asthma, allergies, diabetes, or a heart condition, you should let your dentist know. There are some conditions that dentists need to know about ahead of time. For example, if you have a heart condition, you may need to be on antibiotics before you undergo a dental procedure. You will also need to list your medications for the dentist, so they will know if there are medications they need to avoid.

Concerns

Your dental practitioner will also want to know if you have any concerns about your oral health. If you have a tooth that has been bothering you, or an unusual bump on your cheek, the dentist needs to know. That way, they can be sure and check closely what may be bothering you.

Along the lines of concerns, if you have a fear of the dentist, you need to let them know that as well. This is a great time to discuss sedation with the dentist, especially if you need IV sedation in order to alleviate any fears you have.

Conclusion

Dentists love getting new patients, but they also love seeing existing patients as well. Whether you are a new patient or an existing patient, be sure your dentist is up to date with your records, medications, health concerns, or problems with your teeth. All of this information helps them treat you more effectively.
